Our Story

Matt and Mel Soto

Our story began in High School where Mel and I dated when I was a senior and she was a junior. This was in 1999, we dated for some months and went to my senior prom together. Life happens as it always does and we went our separate ways. 13 years later and each of us having gone through starting a family and going through a divorce we reconnected on, of all places, Facebook. We had our 2nd 1st date and then Mel spent 6 weeks traveling the US with me for work. We drove 10k miles in 6 weeks and needless to say we experienced many of our firsts during that time. Fast forward a bit and we had our only child together, a lovely strong willed little girl. Together we have 3 amazing children. We were living in the Houston area and made the move to South Texas where we grew up. We lived down south for 7 years and during that time we opened a Cajun themed restaurant called Gator's Grub and Pub, named after our little girl who we nicknamed "Gator". Gator's stayed open for 9 months and we closed the doors due to a series of unfortunate events. Running a restaurant is not for the faint at heart but it was a great experience and we loved every minute. About a yr and a half ago we made the move to Clovis, NM. We knew we wanted to get into the cannabis business and applied for our grow license and were approved, we were in the game. We had one huge hurdle to overcome, selling our Texas home. The sale of the house took 16 months so we were on pause with the build out of our grow. During that time we observed the market conditions and opted to not continue with our grow operation but decided we need to do something different in the cannabis space. In October of 2023 we finally sold and closed on our Texas home and we had the seed money to do something different. We found our location in the downtown area and made an offer with the sellers, a bit of negotiating and we had a deal. We closed on what we now know as The Canna House in November of 2023.
